Since 1995, sports writers from Deseret News have selected the top high school girls basketball player in the state to receive the recognition of Utah Miss Basketball (see list). Our goal is to prepare the next-generation of talented female athletes by organizing competitive basketball leagues for girls in grades 5-8 in Utah Valley.
*Spring 2011 League runs from February 26 to April 16*
League Details:
- Utah Miss Basketball League follows a similar successful format of the Utah Mr. Basketball League which has run since 2007.
- Teams play in 2 age divisions - Grades 5th/6th and 7th/8th.
- Coaches organize their own teams of 6-8 girls per team and are responsible to find their own practice facilities.
- All teams are guaranteed 7 games.
- The final week (an 8th game) is only for the Top 2 teams per age division to play in the Championship Game.
- Trophies and awards are presented after the Championship Game.
- All players participating receive a Utah Miss Basketball t-shirt.
- All coaches and players are insured for all games and team practices (a copy of the insurance policy is available, if needed).
- All officials are experienced Utah High School Certified referees (or experienced adults as needed).
- Utah State High School Basketball rules are used (with the exception of a running 18-min clock per half which stops that last 2 minutes of the game).
- Team fee is based on a cost of $60 per player (i.e. 6 players = $360, 7 players = $420, etc.)
